Former US politician and diplomat Bill Richardson, who handled contacts with Russia on the prisoner issue, has died aged 76. The foundation he created made the announcement.
Richardson also previously served as the U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations and was also the head of the Department of Energy under Bill Clinton and the governor of New Mexico.
“The former governor of New Mexico Bill Richardson died last night in his sleep at his summer home in Chatham, Massachusetts. Governor Richardson was 75 years old,” the report said.
In 2022, according to some media reports, Richardson flew to Moscow to “serious negotiations” regarding the release of American citizens who are in prisons in the Russian Federation.
