The TV channel reminds that Anthony Blinken is heading to Beijing for an important visit to get US-China relations “back on track” after months of heightened tensions between the two countries. Officials from both governments expressed hope for the visit.
Blinken also reportedly spoke separately by phone with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin ahead of his visit on Saturday. A U.S. State Department spokesman said Blinken discussed regional priorities with the two leaders and also reiterated each country's continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty.
Earlier, after the downed Chinese balloon incident over the U.S., Blinken canceled an already arranged visit to China, after which Beijing did not express willingness to accept it for a long time.
