In the capital Mexico Lev Trotsky's grandson Vsevolod Volkov has died, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the Mexican Left Socialist Movement.
Volkov was 97 years old. It should be noted that he was the last living witness to the murder of his grandfather, Leon Trotsky. On August 20, 1940, he was mortally wounded by NKVD agent Ramon Mercader in Coyoacan (Mexico) and died the following day. At the same time, Volkov was also a witness to a previous assassination attempt in which he was injured.
Volkov was the son of Trotsky's eldest daughter, and since 1939 he lived in Mexico, where he studied chemistry and participated in the socialist movement there. In 1990, he organized the opening of the Trotsky House Museum in Mexico and became its leader.
