The US decided on an indefinite deadline to close its consulate in Adana, Turkey, in the southeast of the country. This was stated in a statement on the website of the US Embassy in Turkey.

The decision was made after protesters against Israel's operation in the Gaza Strip threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the consulate building.

U.S. citizens , who had an appointment at the Adana consulate, must now reschedule their appointment and contact the Ankara embassy directly.

In addition, US government employees are advised to avoid going to Adana.
