US Department Representative Amos Hochstein advised Ukraine to focus on modernizing its energy sector, instead of constantly looking at the launch of the Nord Stream 2 program. A US official is now visiting Kiev. He stressed that during talks with Ukrainian colleagues constantly talking about the need for development. Otherwise, Ukraine will be isolated from the world's modern energy systems and energy economy.
Hochstein noted that now was the time for a “great energy transformation” and that Ukraine should become part of it. He reminded that during the Green Visit to the USA, the possibility of developing nuclear energy in Ukraine was discussed. And there has also been a lot of talk about switching to cleaner energy.
Last week, the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was completed. It was laid from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The capacity of these two lines is 55 billion cubic meters per year. The start of operation is planned for the end of 2021.
