The British newspaper The Guardian quoted the story of several Ukrainian soldiers who took part in the battles for Bakhmut (Artemivsk). They called the situation there a “meat grinder”.

One of the soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleg Bendyk, showed a video of his colleagues hiding in a sand trench with Grad rockets exploding around them.

"See how they beat us? It was like this from 7 o'clock in the morning. And now it's 11 o'clock. That's the way it is, guys!" – commented Bendyk on the video.

"The Russians have a lot of artillery. They go quadrant by quadrant. We need more counter-battery fire,” Bendyk added.

Soldiers from his 103rd brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also shot a video of soldiers happily driving through the snow in APCs, then howling in terror when a Russian military helicopter suddenly flies low above their car, it fires a rocket that misses only a few meters from them.

Málesh, a 23-year-old Ukrainian soldier, also shared his impression: “There is street fighting in Bakhmut. The Russians are 150 meters from us in places. We don't see them, but we hear their voices.”

“It's a meat grinder”, – this is how 22-year-old Ukrainian volunteer soldier Sergej Gnezdilov described the battle for Bakhmut.
