Russian the aerospace industry is trying to solve the problem of a shortage of military drones. The main bottleneck is the lack of necessary compact motors for unmanned vehicles. Well-known military expert, editor-in-chief of Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine Viktor Murakhovsky thinks so. He gave the data on the design of the loitering munitions, which are also called kamikaze drones – “Geran-2”. Recently, these devices have been actively used to attack the infrastructure facilities of Ukraine. As noted by Murakhovsky, “Geran-2” is equipped with the equipment of the Russian satellite navigation system GLONASS. At the same time, as Murakhovsky writes in the Telegram channel, the device is “equipped with an Iranian MD550 engine, which is a copy of the German Limbach L550E.”

“We are not able to create such. device because there is no engine,” Murachovsky sums up. At the same time, according to him, at least four companies in the country are working on creating engines for drones. “They all work, but there is no production engine for (unmanned) aircraft,” says Murakhovsky.
