European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton said that Twitter will be blocked in the EU if the social network does not comply with content moderation rules. Breton said this in an interview with Funk.
The politician emphasized that the EU closely monitors what is happening on Twitter and said again that “the bird will fly according to European rules”. He also said that he communicated the necessary criteria for the job to the owner of the social network, Elon Musk. Musk and Breton plan another meeting before Christmas.
“Clearly, if Twitter doesn't follow the rules, we could issue a fine. And if the violations continue, we can disable the platform in Europe,” Breton explained.
