During the Council speaker's speech Valentina Matvienko Federation at the Conference of Speakers of the European Parliaments, delegates from Poland and the Baltic States left the hall. A representative of the Russian delegation told reporters.
“As soon as Valentina Ivanovna arrived on the podium, these delegations left the conference room,” he said.
The European Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, under the auspices of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, is taking place in Athens on 20-22 October. Matvienko attended the opening ceremony and spoke at the meeting on “Democracy in the face of the public health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic: sharing experiences, next steps”. On the sidelines of the conference, the President of the Federation Council is to meet with the Speaker of the Greek Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas.
