Reported by Süddeutsche Zeitung that against the background of the Ukrainian conflict, the North Atlantic Alliance under the auspices of Germany decided to threaten Russia with exercises in the Baltic Sea.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the German Navy, Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaak, the German authorities together with their partners want to use these maneuvers to send Russia ” a clear signal of vigilance”.

The authors of the article clarified that at the moment the most important NATO supply routes to the Baltic states and Finland are by sea. For this reason, ensuring the safety of sea routes becomes an important task.

“For example, land communication between Lithuania and Poland can be easily interrupted, as it runs along a 65-kilometer narrow corridor between Russia's Kaliningrad and Belarus,” – the release notes.
