Russia was not re-elected to the International Council the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Previously, ICAO flagged Russia as a “red flag” due to alleged problems with ensuring flight safety. The Association of Travel Agencies of Russia informed about it. Previously, only Bhutan and Eritrea received this status.
In the summer, it was reported that the ICAO reported problems with the safety of flights in the Russian Federation due to the dual registration of aircraft and called for the elimination of violations by September 14. They promised otherwise to release information about “significant security concerns.” According to the organization, Russia is unable to control the safety of flights on dual-registration aircraft.
At the same time, ATOR said that neither the dual registration itself nor the ICAO “red flag” “does not exist, and yet Russian-made aircraft are less safe.” The decision was made “against the background of the aggravation of the geopolitical situation”.
