Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law adopted by the parliament, which expands administrative and criminal liability for discrediting and forgeries on the topic of SVO – now the legislation applies to all participants of a special operation, including volunteers.< /p>
According to the law, one-time discrediting of volunteers falls under an administrative article and is punishable by a heavy fine, but in case of repeated violations, criminal liability arises. According to the criminal article, defamation is punishable by up to 5 years in prison, and in the case of serious consequences, up to 7 years.
Falcies about volunteers violating the new article can be punished by imprisonment for up to 15 years.
Amendments to the legislation were adopted by the State Duma on March 14, after which the Federation Council supported the law. Only senator Ljudmila Narusová voted against in the upper chamber of the parliament.
