The FBI is investigating former US President Donald Trump for violating the Espionage Act.
According to Politico, this is according to a search warrant seen by this publication.
< p> It was previously reported that FBI agents seized about 20 boxes of various items from Trump's estate. Among them were 11 sets of classified documents, including those marked “top secret,” as well as materials that contained information about the French president.
The warrant shows that federal law enforcement authorities suspect Trump from erasing or destroying records, obstructing an investigation and violating the Espionage Act.
“Conviction under the law can result in imprisonment or fines,” the material points out.
Donald Trump's press office issued a statement , that the documents found at his estate had been previously declassified. Additionally, he notes, there was no need to seize because the FBI only had to ask the former president to hand over the documents, which he was prepared to do.
