The United States intends to negotiate with Russia according to the Strategic Offensive Weapons Treaty (START) “even tomorrow” if Moscow is ready for it. It was announced by US Deputy Secretary General Victoria Nuland.
“We are ready to start doing this tomorrow if the Russian Federation is ready for it. We are also ready to allow inspections,” Nuland said in response to a question about whether the United States is ready to negotiate with the Russian Federation without accusations and preconditions.
In addition, the American diplomat noted that Moscow's suspension of participation in START is ” irresponsible”. She emphasized that Russia and the United States bear a great responsibility towards the entire world to maintain the security of nuclear arsenals.
President Vladimir Putin announced the suspension of Russia's participation in START during his speech to the Federal Assembly on February 21.
