NI urged the US to prepare for new surprises from Putin

According to political scientist Joseph Nye, Jr. Washington should prepare for new challenges and surprises from the Russian Federation and especially from its President Vladimir Putin. He shared his opinion with The National Interest.

Since 2017, according to the expert, the United States has focused its national security strategy on competing with Beijing and Moscow. The US is trying to figure out the strategies of these countries.

According to Nye Jr. this approach has two problems. First, American analysts do not separate Russia and China.

The second problem with this approach is that Americans look at everything from the concept of great power rivalry. At the same time, they are not paying attention to a new type of threat such as the coronavirus pandemic.

Nye Jr. advised the United States to adjust its future national security strategy.

< p>Strategic competition between the leading powers should be at the forefront, not Cold War politics.

The expert also advised states to be ready for new surprises from Putin and China.
