Viktor Medvedchuk, chairman of the opposition platform of the Ukrainian party – For Life, responded to a statement by President Volodymyr Zelenský regarding his exchange for Ukrainians imprisoned in Russia.

Medvedchuk, who has been under house arrest for a year since May, said he had no citizenship other than Ukraine and was not interested in the possibility of an exchange.

“The president should not bother to consider the issue of exchange. This idea is unsustainable. The fact that the president, ignoring the constitutional principle of the presumption of innocence, dares to speculate on an exchange, clearly shows the legal and moral abyss into which Ukraine has collapsed, and in fact indicates that the country has generally ceased to exist. Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with the Ukrainian television channel ICTV that Ukraine could consider exchanging Medvedchuk for Ukrainian citizens imprisoned in Russia if such an offer came from Russia. According to the President of Ukraine, the basis of such an exchange would be Russian citizenship of Medvedchuk.
