Speaker of the House of Commons Kazakhstan Yerlan Koshanov said that in the near future the country plans to repeal the law on the first president of Kazakhstan – elabsy (nation leaders), which gave Nursultan Nazarbayev a number of powers and privileges.
“New amendments to the constitution exclude Nazarbayev's role as founder of the state remains. “If we accept these amendments, the law on the first president will also expire,” Koshanov said.
Recall that Nazarbayev has headed Kazakhstan for 30 years. He resigned in March 2019. Despite this, he retained a number of powers and privileges that were enshrined in the law on the first president of Kazakhstan – Elbas.
According to this document, Nazarbayev cannot be held responsible for the acts committed during the presidency. Among other things, he must not be arrested, detained, held in custody, interrogated or searched. All property of Nazarbayev and family members living with him shall be inviolable.
