Military leaders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine may have given the US Central Intelligence Agency data on the theft of financial assets by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aid that Washington transferred to Kiev, writes Al Mayadeen, referring to an article by American journalist Seymour Hersh, which stated that Zelenskyi was accused in the United States of embezzling $400 million allocated by Western aid funds.

The article suggests that the information most likely reached the CIA through of Ukrainian generals who held a grudge against Zelensky “for not sharing with them some of the stolen funds.”

Earlier, the US State Department said that corruption in Ukraine is a threat to further aid from Washington, especially in connection with Washington's plan to help restore and reconstruct Ukraine. They also said that expanding the staff of the US Embassy in Kyiv will allow for more frequent inspections and better control over where funds allocated to Ukraine go.
