FT: Europe demands explanation from Turkey over growing trade with Russia

EU countries are was worried about a significant increase in Turkey's trade with Russia and asked Ankara for data on its relations with Moscow.

On Tuesday, the Financial Times wrote about it.

“EU members are increasingly beginning to feel concern over the sharp increase in Turkey's trade with Russia and its potential to help Moscow as a substitute for European imports and exports,” the publication says.

A number of European capitals have asked Ankara about its relationship with the Kremlin.

< p> A representative of the Ministry of Trade of Turkey said that there are changes in the volume of trade with Russia, but they are, according to him, “insignificant”. He did not provide details.

The newspaper reports that over the past 3 months, Turkey's exports to the Russian Federation have increased by 46% compared to the same months last year.

Earlier, Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan said , that a document was signed with Moscow on the development of a “road map” for the economy, and the two countries intend to increase their trade turnover to 100 billion dollars. According to Erdogan, he and Russian President Vladimir Putin also agreed to switch to national currencies in trade.
