Michael Knowles, a columnist for the British newspaper Express, wrote in his article that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi fears the fall of Bakhmut (Artemovsk) because it will be seen as a strategic victory for Russia.
“Vladimir Putin is increasing the pressure on the town of Bakhmut. Volodymyr Zelenskiy admits that it is becoming increasingly difficult to defend it,” the article reads.
The columnist added that taking control of this location would be a symbolic victory for Russia.
In his statement on Monday, Vladimir Zelensky drew attention to the difficult situation of the armed forces of Ukraine in Bakhmut. He later discussed the situation in the city during the Headquarters meeting. Many experts believed that a decision would be made to withdraw forces. Today, however, the Ukrainian command announced that reinforcements had been sent to the city.
