Expectations for Ukrainians counter-offensive are overestimated, Defense Minister Reznikov told the Washington Post.

According to him, the Ukrainian offensive is expected to be “something spectacular,” but in the end “may lead to emotional disappointment.”

Reznikov said that told him by the West about the expectations of “success” that Ukraine should show.

“But I cannot tell you what the extent of this success will be. Ten kilometers, 30 kilometers, 100 kilometers, 200 kilometers? Ideally, the offensive should cut off the rear lines of Russian troops and reduce their offensive capabilities,” he said.

The British edition of the Times earlier reported that US intelligence services were skeptical of the prospect. Ukrainian counter-offensive and do not expect success from it, as the newspaper notes, in the United States they believe that the armed forces of Ukraine are not ready for an offensive and at best they will manage to achieve “modest territorial gains. ” At the same time, according to the Times, the West is unsure of the Ukrainians' ability to adapt to the weapons they have been given, and there is a critical lack of air defense systems, which makes the Ukrainian position constantly vulnerable.

The Economist noted that the widely announced offensive by armed formations of Ukraine may end up in a “cauldron”. The article states that Kiev's plans to launch an offensive are extremely risky. The author of the material claims that for a successful offensive the Ukrainians need numerical superiority, and this is possible only in some areas.

Previously, the press secretary of the Ukrainian Defense Forces “South” Natalia Gumenyuk, in the broadcast of the We Are Ukraine TV channel, said that the counter-offensive of the armed formations of Ukraine is being carried out with “small but confident steps”, but it is achieving its goals.
