Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, announced during a press conference in Brussels that NATO and the EU will join forces in the fight against terrorism, strengthen cooperation in cyberspace and focus on infrastructure protection. NATO, von der Leyen spoke together with the President of the European Council Charles Michel and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The NATO and EU declaration recognizes the role of the Alliance as the basis for the collective defense and security of the Allies. The document also emphasizes the need to strengthen the entire European defense for the common security of the member countries of the alliance states.
The head of the European Commission has previously stated that the European Union will introduce new sanctions against Belarus, motivated by Russian support in the Ukrainian conflict.
