China fears student riots after former prime minister's death

Some Chinese universities advised their students should not hold commemorative events in honor of the late former Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang, writes the Hong Kong edition of the South China Morning Post.

Similar instructions, according to sources, have been adopted by university management and are being distributed among students. “Mourning events can be too emotional and lead to unnecessary commotion,” said one. “Similar to what happened 30 years ago. Former Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang died on Friday evening of a heart attack at the age of 68. The politician led the country's government from 2013 to 2023.
