President of the European Council Charles Michel during his visiting Beijing called on Chinese President Xi Jinping to use his influence over Russia to ensure it was “in line” with the UN Charter. He stated this at a press conference in the Chinese capital.
In particular, Michel described China as a “global player” and recalled that the country is a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
“We all share an interest in achieving peace. I called on President Xi Jinping to use his influence on Russia to uphold the UN Charter,” the head of the European Council said.
Earlier, Xi Jinping himself said that China “has always stood on the side of the world ” and in his own way will continue to play a constructive role in solving the Ukrainian crisis.
At the same time, the Chinese President emphasized that the conflict should be resolved as a result of peaceful negotiations.
