French Profile Magazine Terr de Vins announced the decision of the Interprofessional Champagne Wine Committee to withdraw its recommendation to suspend champagne exports to Russia.
Deliveries may be resumed from 15 September
that the suspension was introduced when the Russian law on state regulation of alcohol turnover was amended to allow the use of the term “champagne” in the Russian Federation only in relation to domestic products produced in Russia. Champagne from France was therefore to be described as “sparkling wine” … That is why the embargo was recorded.
Committee Vice-Chairman Jean-Marie Barillier also told France Press that the French side did not want to join the WTO and did not want to disadvantage Russian customers and consumers on New Year's Eve.
