Russia will face sanctions if it blocks the transit of gas through the territory of Ukraine, said the chief adviser on energy security of the Foreign Ministry Amos Hochstein. He stressed that such a condition is contained in the agreements between the USA and Germany. The German side also undertook to use every opportunity to extend the transit agreement through Ukraine for 10 years.

Hochstein noted that no one should be surprised if the US announces new sanctions. “In other words, we will do everything in our power to make the Germans ready for the moment and for Russia to know that it will have to pay for it,” the politician stressed.

Recall that the construction of Nord Stream 2 was completed on September 10. The date of its launch is still unknown, previously the Russian side announced that it would happen by the end of 2021.
