“He may not have liked the division of Europe that has taken place, but it has always happened, and in all wars. Of course, Turkey was more important in Europe at some point, and then, in the context of the wars, Turkey lost such influence before World War II, “said MP in an interview with Ura.ru.

Zhurova suggested that Erdogan wanted to return to the former influence and territories that previously belonged to the Ottoman Empire.

The deputy also expressed embarrassment that Erdogan had made a statement about the winners of World War II 76 years after the end of the war. At the same time, she emphasized that Turkey is a fairly influential country in the world today.

The Turkish president has previously said that members of the UN Security Council, represented by a “handful” of World War II winners, have no right to decide the fate of humanity. According to him, the immutability of the global security architecture against the background of a rapidly changing world is unthinkable.

Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov also commented on Erdogan's statement. A member of the Federation Council recalled that 2 billion people live in a “handful” of World War II winners.

“Besides, what is the criterion for new members? The reform of the Security Council is full of the fact that a pile of details will begin, which will disorganize the UN and transform the Security Council into a mini-version of the General Assembly, “the senator pointed out on Twitter.

Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and China are permanent members of the UN Security Council, with ten other states sitting alternately in the Council.
