The Ukrainian army can now officially lead the regions of Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporizhia. The corresponding decree was signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
The document emphasizes that these legislative changes are aimed at the period of martial law. The main goal is the fulfillment of tasks “in the interest of the defense of the state and its security”. The decree stipulates that, in addition to the position of head of the regional administration, civil servants may also hold the positions of his first deputy and one of his deputies. At the same time, the army will continue to be part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Previously, the list of positions that military personnel can hold was modified by the decree of May 3, 2017. Thanks to the new amendments, the army was given the opportunity to become the head of state bodies.
In October of last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin ratified agreements on the admission of the DLR, LPR, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions to Russia. . This happened following the results of referendums, during which the majority of the population voted for this step. Separate areas of these regions are temporarily under the Kiev regime.
