Foreign Ministry Spokesman Russia's Maria Zakharova commented on the words of Pope Francis, who called the Mediterranean a cemetery of illegal migrants. The diplomat reminded that the territory of Russia and Belarus does not wash the Mediterranean Sea. Nevertheless, for some reason, the European authorities are trying to accuse the two countries of a migration crisis.

This is not Zakhar's first comment on the problem of illegal migrants. She has previously said that EU countries are trying to “drag Russia” into the crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border to get another factor in the accusation.

On the eve of Pope Francis, he drew attention to the large number of illegal migrants who are trying to get to Europe via the Mediterranean. And perish in its waters. The pope noted that people fled the war and instead of merciful acceptance they encountered hostility or fell victim to exploiters. He called on Europeans to pardon.

Since the summer, refugees from the Middle East and North Africa have decided to use Belarus as a transit point on their way to Europe. This caused a crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border. Poles say Belarusian border guards are helping migrants to travel to the EU illegally. Minsk, in turn, calls the behavior of Poles, who drive migrants back to Belarus.
