WSJ: Western politicians fear Zelensky's attempt to drag NATO into the conflict

An article in the Wall Street Journal states that Western politicians were concerned by the emotional statements of the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky after the rocket hit the territory of Poland. Observers of the newspaper make it clear that Zelensky's behavior was seen in the West as an attempt to draw NATO into the conflict with Russia.

“The events revealed the tension that has existed since the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict: while Kyiv is counting on strengthening the role of NATO, Washington and its European allies hope to avoid steps that could provoke a direct confrontation with Russia,” the journalists noted.

After the incident in Poland and Zelensky's statement, a number of European and American officials began to wonder whether the president was trying to Ukraine to involve NATO in the conflict. “The EU described Kiev's reaction as mostly emotional,” the journalists summarized.
