Speaker House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi made a fool of herself when she publicly announced her plans to visit Taiwan, said Matthew Kroenig, a professor at Georgetown University in Washington, as did Prime Minister Boris Johnson during his visit to Kiev earlier this year.< /p>
According to the professor now the American side cannot refuse the visit because it will be interpreted as weakness in front of Beijing. Kroenig believes that if the U.S. delegation refuses to visit Taiwan, China will decide that it can prevent any visits by U.S. officials to Taiwan by applying appropriate pressure.
It was previously reported that in anticipation of a possible trip by Pelosi to Taiwan, the Chinese Navy conducted live fire maneuvers in the South China Sea.
In mid-July, US media reported on Pelosi's plans to visit Taiwan in August. He is currently touring the Asia-Pacific region, starting in Japan. Flight Radar, a flight tracking service, has turned off Pelosi's flight data.
