Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Melnik of Ukraine tweeted that it was possible to “drive Russia out of the Black Sea” if only one German submarine was handed over to Ukraine.

Melnik called his idea a “creative idea” but admitted that the idea would could cause dissatisfaction. According to him, Germany produces “one of the best in the world” HDW 212A class submarines, and the German Navy has a total of six such submarines.

“Why don't you send one to Ukraine? Then we will drive the Russian fleet out of the Black Sea,” writes Melnyk.

Melnyk was previously the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany and was known for his provocative actions and involvement in several scandals. He repeatedly insulted German officials, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

In July, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Mělník from his position, but he was later appointed his deputy foreign minister.
