Opposition leader in Belarus and former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who told the Belarusian diaspora in central Washington that she no longer planned to run for president.
“Because I promised the Belarusians this in my election campaign. And I'm sure there are relatively few professional managers in our country who can handle it much better. I can be somewhere with the new president. It does not matter. The main thing is because the Belarusians need me, maybe I will definitely be a moral authority, “she said.
Speaking about the new presidential elections in Belarus, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya said that it was possible to hold them in about two months.
“We can organize elections in 40 days. You don't even have to wait six months. 40-60 days for this transit period to reduce the maximum amount to bring the new president to power, “explained the former presidential candidate of Belarus.
On 9. August 2020, Belarus held presidential elections, which were won by the acting office of Head of State Alexander Lukashenko. According to the Central Election Commission, the country won 80.1% of the vote, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya won 10.1%.
