The White House expected Russia to take control of Kiev

According to White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre in Washington, within the first two days after the start of the special operation, they believed that the Russian army would take Kiev.

“You know, in the first few days after the start of large-scale hostilities, we thought that Kiev would be taken,” she noted during the briefing.
