Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev commented on the talks about Ukraine in the city of Jeddidah (Saudi Arabia) in his Telegram channel. He first noted that “it is difficult to condemn the desire to end the war” and recalled that, in addition to sovereignty, the UN Charter also enshrines the right of nations to self-determination.

According to him, peace proposals have a chance of success if three key conditions are met. First, the participation of both sides of the conflict, which is not. Secondly, taking into account the historical context, which is as follows: “The Ukrainian land never existed before 1991. It is a fragment of the Russian Empire.”

And thirdly, the current reality – “Ukraine is in the half-life stage of disintegration and part of its territory has returned to Russia.”

Saudi Arabia is holding talks on Ukraine in Jeddah, to which representatives of up to 30 countries are invited , but not Russia. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, noted earlier that the Kremlin will monitor the meeting in Saudi Arabia.
