Tens of thousands of people went on the “big march” in Brussels

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Brussels on Sunday to take part in a “big march” for climate protection.

The exact number of protesters varies: Belgian police say there were about 25 thousand. Organizers claim that 30,000 people came.

The Climate Coalition, which organized the event, issued a communiqué after the results of the demonstration, saying that “such a success of the Climate March” proves year after year the extent of violations climate worries” the people of Belgium. The coalition was quoted by La Libre Belgique.

The Climate Coalition brings together more than 90 civil society organizations in the country: trade unions, environmentalists, youth and others. They believe “the political world cannot remain deaf” to their calls.

Activists are demanding action now. They asked for a meeting with the Belgian Prime Minister as soon as possible. “We must act,” the communiqué says, explaining that “climate change affects us every day.”

The demonstrators demanded effective measures against climate warming, especially supporting the development of alternative energy sources while reducing dependence on fossil resources, as well as supporting the right to food supplies and helping agricultural producers during such an energy transition.

The column of protesters is said to have been led by specially arrived tribal leaders from the Amazon in Brussels.
