Russian Minister of Sports Oleg Matycin is subject to US sanctions, according to an updated list of sanctions published on the website of the US State Department.
In addition to Matycin, the list includes other Russian ministers and heads of various ministries. The sanctions also affected the banking and business sectors, as well as the aviation and industrial sectors.
Oleg Matycin was appointed as the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation on January 21, 2020.
Former President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation hockey player and member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vladislav Treťyak was among the individuals on whom Canada imposed personal sanctions. Tretyak is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame located in Toronto. He was honored to be the first hockey player from Europe to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. The IIHF included Tretiak in the symbolic team of the 20th century, he was also recognized as the best hockey player of the last century according to the International Ice Hockey Federation.
