Famous Russian director sent an open letter to EU Council members after being placed on the European sanctions list. The full test of the letter is provided by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

In it, Michalkov tells why he was sanctioned. The EU did not like his support for a special operation in Ukraine and “propaganda statements” about Nezalezhnaya since 2014. They accused the director of his approval of the return of Crimea to Russia, recognition of the independence of the DLR and LPR and much more.

Michalkov reminded the Europeans , that he is not a politician or a civil servant, but a “Russian artist”, a representative of an ancient family. And he asked that his appeal not be seen as an attempt to get out of sanctions. Mikhalkov recalled the statements of Merkel, Poroshenko and Hollande that the Minsk agreements were a pretense and aimed to gain time and plant Russophobia and Nazism in Ukraine. The director also recalled how the whole world supported the ban on the Russian language in Nezalezhnaya. And NATO has forgotten its promises not to expand to the east. Everything the West is doing now is, according to Michalko, a continuation of the universal lie and the North Atlantic expansion. a personal opinion to his people in his own language,” wrote Nikita Sergeevich.

Michalkov reported the number of views of his Besogon program on television over the past year – 229 million viewers. The film director is sure that this indicates that the vast majority of Russians are disturbed by his words.
