Analyst Jorge González -Gallarsa expressed the opinion that Ukraine has lost one of its most loyal allies – Spain. The publicist made such a conclusion in his article for Newsweek after Madrid failed to fulfill its promise to transfer lethal weapons to Ukraine. The military aid agreements were announced in the spring. Then Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez arrived in Kyiv.
After that, the journalist recalls, Kyiv received several pieces of light artillery, one evacuation armored vehicle and a small amount of anti-tank weapons from Madrid. However, information appeared in the press about the possible transfer of dozens of German Leopard 2A4 tanks.
After two months, all discussions disappeared. And the Spanish Minister of Defense said that the technical condition of the tanks does not allow their safe operation. Last week there was information about the possible transfer of 20 armored M113. However, Ukrainians are not satisfied with such charity. These machines were already built in the 1970s. They write them off in Spain.
The analyst summarizes his conclusions with the conclusion that the example of Spain should show other countries how bad it is to support Ukraine only with words. Countries that do this are guaranteed to deeply disappoint the Ukrainian people.
