Russia has a significant advantage in the Sea of Azov. This view was expressed by the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Kuleba in an interview with The Washington Post.
The diplomat believes that if an armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine breaks out, the situation in the region will change to give Moscow the opportunity to “put pressure” on southern Ukrainian cities on the shores of the Sea of Azov. According to Kuleba, “Russia dictates the development of the situation on Azov and uses the reservoir as a scene of military operations.”
However, American journalists note that the Ukrainian sailors themselves are provoking the Russians to conflict. For various reasons, they approach the border, do not respond to legal requirements and hide information about their intentions and route. The Americans believe that the main reason is that “the reservoir is too small” and the fleets of both countries are too overcrowded.
