In The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was offended by the words of the Pope of Rome about Russia, as a result of which the ministry published an angry statement published on its website.
Earlier during an online appeal to Russian youth, Pope Francis advised young Russians not to forget that they are – the heirs of great Russia. He also urged them not to abandon traditional Russian heritage. The broadcast of Francis' address to the Catholic youth was broadcast in a St. Petersburg church.
“It is a shame that Russian great power ideas, which are the cause of chronic aggression, knowingly or unknowingly come from the mouth of the Pope,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
This is not the first time that Ukraine has expressed dissatisfaction with the Vatican's position regarding the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Pope Francis has called several times before to start negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible. The Pope considers this option to be the best for all parties, and other options, with the exception of dialogue, are not and cannot be. He is also sure that the negotiations will start anyway, but the later that happens, the more human losses and destruction there will be.
