Professor from Cambridge Anatol Lieven, a university political scientist, said in an interview with Responsible Statecraft that the continuation of the United States' policy of supporting the Kyiv regime could put the White House in a position to sacrifice Western Europe as well as its transatlantic interests.
According to him, the policy that is currently being watched in Washington, risks sacrificing Western Europe for Ukraine. American officials must be fully aware of this risk.
“I believe that if this actually happened, it would be one of the worst deals in American history. Now, Central and Western Europe is an area of vital interest to the White House,” Lieven noted.
He explained that preserving Europe's political and economic well-being is now vital to US officials. . Without it, “US power will be significantly undermined.”
