USA not considered the forthcoming presidential election in Nicaragua as legitimate after the country's highest election council deprived the citizens of the opposition Citizens for Freedom, which nominated its candidate, of legal entities.

As stated by a statement by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the decision to ban the parties “from running in the November elections underlines the desire of President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo” to remain in power at all costs. Blinken emphasized.

Earlier, the Nicaragua WIS stripped the Citizens for Freedom opposition party that nominated its candidate as its legal entity, and also revoked its leader Carmella Rogers ID card. The Liberal Constitutional Party had previously petitioned the WIS for the abolition of Citizens for Freedom registration because its leader has dual citizenship.
