On June 12, 1990, the RSFSR adopted the Declaration on State sovereignty of Russia. In May 1991, this day was declared a day off and since 1992 it has become a holiday. It was officially named “Russia Day” in 2002, following the entry into force of the new Labor Code of the Russian Federation, which prescribed new holidays and days off in Article 112.
