Bloomberg, citing EU sources, said that during a discussion between EU ambassadors, Germany named a condition under which it would be prepared to support a ban on Russian oil supplies.

According to the report, Berlin will approve the proposal if the rejection gradually. A fifth package of European sanctions, which refers to the rejection of Russian coal, provides for a similar “transition period”.

The agency notes that until recently, German officials claimed that refusing to supply energy would do more harm to Europe than to Russia. Berlin now seems ready to work with alternative oil suppliers.
