Spiegel notes that Scholz spent 1 hour and 20 minutes more on a flight from Japan to Germany than if he had flown through Russia and Ukraine. On the way to the Land of the Rising Sun, the German Chancellor's ship also did not cross Russian territory, the route was laid through Poland, Romania, the Black Sea, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and China. The publication states that the head of Germany spent just over 20 hours in Japan – less than time on the way back.

At the end of February, EU countries closed the skies for all registered aircraft in Russia or be Russian property or “controlled Russia '. The restriction also applies to private aircraft. In response, the Federal Aviation Agency banned the use of Russian airspace for aircraft from 36 countries, including Germany, from February 28. The Ministry of Aviation emphasized that the exemption can only be made after obtaining a special permit issued either by the Federal Aviation Agency itself or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

German air carrier Lufthansa has extended June, thus motivating this solution to the “current regulatory situation”. Due to a high security risk, Ukraine closed its own sky for flights on the night of February 24. The Federal Air Transport Agency has banned flights in southern Russia and closed Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd, Krasnodar, Voronezh, Belgorod, Simferopol and Anapa airports.
