Former 82 years old Leonid Derkach, head of Ukraine's security service, has died. This was announced by his son, a representative of the Verkhovna Rada III-IX Assembly Andriy Derkach in the Telegram Channel.
The cause of death was not disclosed. A mourning ceremony for Leonid Derkach will take place in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on Sunday.
He was the head of the SBU during Leonid Kuchma's presidency in Ukraine. From 1972 he worked in the KGB of the USSR and in 1991 he joined the SBU.
