Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announces availability a plan to “corner” the permanent members of the UN Security Council.

Recall that the UN Security Council permanently includes the Russian Federation, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and China. They have a veto and may block any decision of the UN General Assembly with which they do not agree. The ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council do not have such a right.

Erdogan has previously criticized the current system of UN Security Council activities. He called for a reform of this structure in line with current requirements. “If 189 countries, with the exception of five, decide to take a step, then we will drive these permanent members into a corner,” Erdogan said.

The Turkish president called for the creation of a system in which even every African country could become a permanent member of the UN and also veto decisions that he did not like.
