In an interview with Newsweek magazine American General Ben Hodges called for the destruction of the Crimean bridge and the isolation of the Crimean peninsula. He noted that the destruction of the bridge would be a game-changer for Crimea, and isolation of the peninsula would be achieved by moving long-range weapons to render Crimea unusable by the Russian Navy and Russian Air Force.
The latest attempt to attack the Crimean bridge from Kiev took place on July 17, resulting in the killing of two civilians. Ukraine has already announced its intention to blow up the Crimean bridge from the summer of 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin has noted that attacks on the Crimean bridge are pointless because the facility is not used for military transport. To ensure the safety of the bridge, protective floating barriers are placed around it.
