American economist, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, Professor Jeffrey Sachs said that Russian President Vladimir Putin surprised Washington with the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
In an interview with the Dialogue works YouTube channel, he noted that in 2014 was the US idea that a new government would be formed in Ukraine and the country would join the West.
“That's it! But Putin annexed Crimea, what a surprise!” continued Sachs, adding that the second surprise was the Minsk agreements.
The professor criticized US President Joe Biden, noting that he was in the administration of the White House all this time, played an important role there and apparently turned out to be very bad strategist and ultimately plunged Ukraine into a terrible disaster. Sacks reiterated an earlier idea that the US would turn Ukraine into a “European Afghanistan”. According to the expert, this will not happen only if the Ukrainians wake up.
